Hello my name is Jennifer Munn, but my
friends all call me Jen. My husband Junior and I live in Hayes, Virginia where I am the charge nurse at an assisted living
facility close to our home, and Junior works in the construction field.
Our journey into the sport of pure bred
dogs began in 2000, and started with us devoting much of our free time in going to shows, reading books and articles, talking
with experienced breeders, researching pedigrees, looking through both past and present breed publications, visiting web sites,
and talking dogs with people from a variety of different breeds and backgrounds. The knowledge we gained eventually lead to
our wanting to show, and then breed our own Poms. We realized early on through our research that we had a certain type that
caught our eye, but that our emphasis would remain on incorporating the breed standard in it's entirety into every breeding
we do. We look for an overall balanced dog that is pleasing in type, with a nice outline, correct movement, and an outgoing
disposition.
We enjoy the challenges and rewards of
breeding, but remain pet owners at heart. Which is probably why we place such a high priority on that precocious personality
which to us is the essence of the Pomeranian. That personality is what initially attracted us to the breed, and we still get
a chuckle daily living with dogs who think they are in charge of the humans that serve them gladly. Our Poms live
in our home with us, and are usually found napping on the sofa, or sleeping in our bed, and have free reign of the house when
we are home to supervise. We love to show our dogs and are very proud of their accomplishments in the ring, but the most rewarding
thing about being a breeder is living with these wonderful animals daily as part of our family.
Thus the decision was made before our
first litter that quality, not quantity, would dictate our breed program. This has lead us to our overall goal of producing
consistently good dogs, while breeding but a few litters per year. Also whenever possible we handle our own dogs in the show
ring. Not having a well known face can be a detriment at times, but we feel very strongly that being a breeder/owner/handler
encourages us to produce top notch dogs who can be competitive on their own merits, regardless of who is on the other end
of the lead. It also has the added benefit of exposure to many different types of Poms while being ringside at the shows.
This allows us to continue to develop our eye for the breed, and stay abreast of what issues are to be kept in mind when choosing
the breedings we will do in the future.
I have found breeding and showing dogs
to be a continual learning experience, with it’s share of disappointments, as well as wonderful triumphs. I enjoy the
fact that there is always something new to be learned, and am very excited about the future of our breed program. We have
high hopes some of the goals we have set for ourselves and our dogs will be achieved in the coming years. And in the meantime
feel privileged to share our lives and hearts with this very special breed.
Best Regards,
